Hospital Births in NWA

Doula Support For Hospital Birth in Bentonville and NWA

NWA Birth Doula Services

What birth choices do you have for birth in NWA hospitals?

Traditional Hospital Birth With epidural or IV pain meds

A traditional hospital birth often involves the use of epidural or IV pain medications to help manage labor discomfort.

Unmedicated Hospital Birth With or Without Nitrous Oxide

Unmedicated hospital birth, whether with or without nitrous oxide, offers a natural birthing experience with minimal intervention, allowing for greater personal control and often a more holistic approach to labor and delivery.

Midwifery Care for Your Hospital Birth – Limited

There are a limited amount of midwives that you can deliver with in a hospital setting in NWA.  Certain practices such as the Community Clinic, as well as NWA Family Medicine  may have midwives on staff who can deliver at Willow Creek Women’s hospital.  To find out if there are any restrictions that may be placed on midwifery care or how likely it is you can deliver with a midwife in the hospital, please contact each individual practice to find out how their services work and if they are accepting new patients.

NWA Hospital Birth Choices

In Northwest Arkansas, there are 4 different hospitals to choose from to give birth. Here are a few things to consider when choosing your NWA hospital:

  • C-section rates – with a range of 21%-44% here in NWA, this is something to consider.
  • Amenities – Hospital birth amenities can be great, but it is important to find out requirements for using them to determine how likely it is they will be available to you for your birth. For example, if you are hoping to be on wireless monitoring and have freedom of movement, it is important to find out how your chosen hospital handles this.
  • Doctors – What doctors have privileges at the hospital, and how likely is it the doctor you prefer will be the one delivering? Are you also comfortable with the on-call doctors at the hospital?

NWA’s 4 hospitals include Mercy in Bentonville, Willow Creek Women’s Hospital in Springdale, Northwest Medical Center in Rogers, and Washington Regional in Fayetteville.

How I Provide Doula Support During Your NWA Hospital Birth

  • Affirm Your Choice:  I believe the best way for you to give birth is the way that makes you feel the most comfortable and confident.

  • Labor Preparation:  I prepare you for what to expect at the hospital.  We talk about scenarios, choices, and how I might advocate for you if necessary.

  • Comfort Measures:  I can provide comfort measures no matter what setting I am in and offer a variety of options during your birth.

  • Positioning:  During your hospital birth, regardless if you are on an epidural (restricting you to bed) or not, I can suggest a variety of strategic positions to help your labor progress.  I am a big believer in the use of birth balls and peanut balls, which are a great tool we can use, and hospitals can provide.

  • Advocacy:  No matter who the provider is, I will help you advocate for your choices.

  • Emotional Support & Encouragement:

  • Partner Support: As your doula, my job is not to replace the deep emotional connection you have to your husband or partner.  My role as your doula takes a lot of the pressure off of your partner.  My presence often makes couples feel more reassured as I can suggest positions, comfort measures, and advocate for you. If your partner is hungry, tired, or has other duties to attend to, they can take a nap or get some food because I will stay with you.

  • Educational Support

With different communication styles, medical jargon, and a lot going on in the hospital room, I am a constant presence who can answer your questions or facilitate better communication between you and hospital staff.  I can provide information or obtain information to help you feel you are more part of the decision making process during labor.

  • After Birth Support

After your baby is born, I want to make sure you are comfortable and don’t have further questions before I excuse myself to allow you to have private bonding time.  I can help get you snacks, meals, pain management and assist with or get you assistance with feeding your baby.

  • Photos:  I am happy to take photos or video for you upon request.
